Bertha Mathes Blevins

Bertha Mathes Blevins, age 96, 2659 Zane Whitson Drive, Unicoi passed away
peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at the
Johnson City Medical Center. She was a native of Erwin, but had lived most of her
life in Unicoi. She was the daughter of the late George and Maggie Tittle Mathes.
In her early years, Bertha worked as a hand painter at Southern Pottery, but farming
was her life for many years with her husband Paul. Bertha was a member of Fellowship Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul in 1978; a son, Wayne Blevins; sisters, Pearl Wallace and Neva Shelton; brothers, Fred, Albert, and Clyde Mathes; and stepmother, Mildred Mathes.
Bertha has left behind to cherish her memory grandsons, Terry Blevins and
wife, Carolyn, Unicoi; Steven Blevins and wife, Gina, Gray; granddaughter, Cathy Gilliam, Janesville, Wisconsin; great grandsons, Kevin Blevins and wife, Melody,
Unicoi; Aaron Blevins and wife, Paige, Columbus, Georgia; great-great grandson,
Owen Blevins, Columbus, Georgia; half-brothers, Rex Mathes and wife, Linda; Harry Mathes and wife, Jennie, all of Erwin; Step-daughter, Kimberly Renfro, step-great granddaughter, Amber Sheehan Blair; sister-in-law Juanita Mathes, Unicoi;
Several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will friends from 6:00 PM until the hour of service at 8:00 PM, Friday, September 26, 2014. Reverend Terry Richardson will officiate. Vocal selections will be provided by Alan Foster and organist, Inez Chandler.
Serving as pallbearers will be Terry Blevins, Kevin Blevins, Steven Blevins, Ralph Dellinger, Kenneth Bourbon. Honorary pallbearer will be Aaron Blevins.
A graveside service will be held September 27, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Jones Cemetery, Unicoi. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the Unicoi
Funeral Home by 12:30 PM, Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery.
