Bernetta “Bea” Brackins

On April 27, 2014, at age 92, Bernetta “Bea” Brackins, former Erwin resident and sister-in-law of Russell and Ginger Brackins, passed away at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Jeanne Brackins, in Tipton IN.
A time efficiency expert in Indianapolis during WWII, she met and married Claude Brackins and was employed by the garment factory in Erwin. A talented hairdresser by trade and a creative seamstress by nature, she spent a lifetime designing and sewing for herself and many others, from wedding dresses to tailored suits, upholstery to theater costumes, dance recital tutus to prom dresses. She spent most of her working years in Lincoln, IL but returned to Erwin upon Claude’s retirement and operated a beauty salon in her home on River Hill.
She was preceded in death by husband Claude Brackins and her sister Patricia Anne Edwards, both residents of Erwin.
She is survived by children Lee (Jeanne) Brackins, Claudia Beth Bismark (Wade Wilson) of Baltimore MD, Ceretha Anne Brackins of Oak Ridge TN, Richard Brackins of Tampa FL, Douglas Brackins of Greensboro NC, and Patsy Simonson of Erwin, and beloved generations of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Arrangements were made by the Porter Funeral Home in Tipton IN. Graveside service was held at the Hills Baptist Cemetery in rural Kempton IN where she was laid to rest only miles from her birthplace on farm land still in the family since 1838.
