Berdie Coffie Sparks, age 83, of Erwin, passed away on Friday, April 8, 2022, at the Center on Aging and Health in Erwin. A native of Erwin, Berdie is a daughter of the late Burnie and Dora Ann (Huskins) Coffie and a member of Canah Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. She was an employee of Industrial Garment for 45 years and enjoyed camping and fishing. She loved her cat, Honey. In addition to her parents, Berdie is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Handy John “HJ” Sparks and siblings: Ernest Coffie, Hillard Coffie, Jeanette Whitson and Vernon Coffie.
Berdie Coffie Sparks has left behind to cherish her memory: sisters-in-law: Patsy Sparks and Alice Sparks; nephews: Steven Sparks, Dennis James Sparks, Danny Coffie, Randy Coffie and Todd Rogers; niece: Lesia Willis; several other nieces and nephews.
The family would like to offer special thanks to the nurses and staff of the Center on Aging and Health, Amedisys Hospice and Unicoi County Hospital for their kindness and care during this difficult time.
The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Berdie Coffie Sparks in a committal service to be held at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 in the mausoleum chapel at Evergreen Cemetery. Brother Steven Sparks and Pastor Mark Simmons will officiate. Those attending the committal service should meet at Evergreen Cemetery by 11:50 pm on Wednesday for the service. Serving as active pallbearers will be Berdie’s nephews and other family members.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Berdie’s name to Canah Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, 704 Jonesborough Road, Erwin, TN 37650.
