Basil Duke Barr, III, age 54, 607 Sciota Road, Unicoi, TN, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2014, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital, Elizabethton. He was a native of Greensboro, GA, and had lived in East Tennessee most of his life. Mr. Barr was the first Eagle Scout of Erwin in 1976. He had helped with the Boy Scouts for a number of years. Mr. Barr had worked as a Park Ranger in Asheville, NC, for many years, had formerly worked on the Blue Ridge Parkway and the park service in Roanoke, VA. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Erwin, and a former Sunday School Teacher.
Mr. Barr leaves behind to cherish his memory, his father and mother, Basil Duke Barr, Jr. and Shirley R. Barr of Elizabethton; a sister, Nena Lynn Reynolds and husband, Dean of Johnson City; and a niece, Dakota Reynolds of Johnson City.
The family will receive friends Friday, November 21, 2014, at the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel from 3:00 P. M. until the hour of service at 4:00 P. M. Reverend Bill Ponder will officiate at the Memorial Service.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Barr to the Boy Scouts of America, 129 Boone Ridge Drive, Johnson City, TN 37615.
