Barnabas Shelton

MARSHALL – Barnabas Shelton, 81, of Marshall, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2015 at the J.F. Keever Solace Center.
Mr. Shelton was born August 17, 1934 in Madison County to the late Joe and Nellie Hensley Shelton. Mr. Shelton was a lifelong steelworker and lived most of his life in Indiana and Alabama but had moved back to Madison County recently. He was a member of Coffee Ridge Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents Barnabas was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Frances Shelton; brothers, Greenlee, Richard, Lester, Ed, Fred, Bluferd, and Dennis Shelton; sisters, Wadie French, Louise Atkinson, and Zelois Hensley.
Surviving are his daughter; Jewel Franklin (Emerson) of Marshall; grandchildren, Sherry Cantrell (Richard) of Marshall, Joe Franklin (Lyvonna) of Marshall; great grandchildren, Dean Cantrell, Dillon Cantrell, Jordan Cantrell, Noah Franklin; great great grandson, Braedan Cantrell; brothers, Crate Shelton of Cullman, AL, Clifford (Mary) Shelton of Erwin, TN, Arlin (Margaret) Shelton of Greeneville, TN, Odell (Verna Lee) of Erwin, TN, and Gerald (Nancy) Shelton of Marshall, NC; sisters in law, Louise Tweed of Cullman, AL, Hazel Shelton of Flag Pond, TN and Zettie Shelton of Monroe, LA; several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2015 in the Chapel of Madison Funeral Home with the Reverend Homer Tweed officiating.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Carmen Church of God Cemetery with Reverend Ralph Shelton officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Saturday prior to the service at Madison Funeral Home.
