Barbara Jean Ollis Hopson

Barbara Jean Ollis Hopson, age 75, 215 Pippin Hollow Road, Erwin, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, at her residence. She was a native and lifelong resident of Unicoi County and was a daughter of the late Walter and Virgie Smith Ollis.
Mrs. Hopson was retired from the V.A. Medical Center Hospital, where she had worked in nursing for many years. She was of the Pentecostal faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Hopson and two sisters, Nancy and Lola Mae Ollis.
Survivors include a daughter: Valarie Penley and her husband, David, of Athens, Ga.; a son: Michael Zabala of Jonesborough; five brothers: Carl Lee Ollis, Farrell Ollis and his wife, Linda, Harry Ollis and his wife, Mae, Junior Ollis and Sherry Hague, all of Erwin and Roy Glen Ollis and his wife, Barbara, of Jonesborough; two sisters: Anna J. McNalley of Erwin and Loraine Drake and her husband, Gary, of Rossville, Ga.; a grandson: Colby Ryan Penley of Buford, Ga.; a granddaughter: Destiny Dawn Zabala of Erwin; also several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Mrs. Hopson was at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 25, in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, Johnson City, with the Rev. E. L. Wheeler officiating.
Internment followed in the Evergreen Cemetery.
