Avery Gene Hensley, age 75, Elizabethton, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, in the Life Care Center of Elizabethton.
A native of Unicoi County, he was a son of the late John and Etta Lee Price Hensley. He had lived a number of years in Carter County.
Mr. Hensley was a retired printer and had previously worked at The Erwin Record. He was a member of the Pleasant Beach Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Kay Hensley and two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife: Charlotte Berry Hensley; four daughters: Doris Jean White and husband Larry, and Diana Hensley, all of Rogue River, Ore., Denise Davenport, Johnson City, and Dawn Tipton and husband Johnny Reb, Erwin; two step-sons: Larry Canter and Hunter “Bosco” Canter, both of Elizabethton; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one step-grandson: Dustin Lee Canter; two step-great-grandchildren: Katie and Bailey Canter; one sister: Edna Dempke and her husband Paul, Erwin; and two aunts: Ivous Henson and Goldie Foster.
Graveside service was conducted at 1:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 24, in the Buckles Cemetery. The Rev. Charlie Biggs officiated. Interment followed the service. Pallbearers were selected from family and friends.
