Amner Toney, 88, of Sevierville, died Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at the Mountainbrook Village Assisted Living Center in Sevierville. She was a native of Unicoi County and a daughter of the late Charles “Charlie” and Annabelle Kyker McInturff.
During World War II Mrs. Toney went to California to work in the aircraft factories, building bombers while the men fought the war. Later, she worked at Southern Potteries. Then, in 1952, she and her husband went into the grocery business, owning and operating Toney’s Grocery in the Fishery Community for more than 30 years before retiring. Mrs. Toney was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Toney in 1998, a granddaughter, Shayne Toney and eight siblings.
Survivors include a son: Charles “Reedy” Toney and wife, Cheryl, of Kingsport; daughter: Janet Hodge and husband, Larry, of Sevierville; grandchildren: Kaelin Toney, Susan Aliff, Wendy Morgan and Laurie Brown; several great-grandchildren; sisters: Patsy Hampton, Susie Higgins and Judy Edwards.
A funeral service for Amner Toney will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 7:30 p.m., in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home, with the Rev. Garland E. James officiating. Visitation with the family will be held prior, from 6 p.m. until service time, at Valley Funeral Home.
Interment will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 11, at 10 a.m., at Evergreen Cemetery.
