Amalee Garland, 93, Evergreen Community, Erwin, died Saturday, March 26, 2011, at the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Erwin on January 25, 1918 and was a lifelong resident. She was a daughter of the late Walter Lyons and Mary Fannings Masters.
Mrs. Garland was a homemaker. She was a charter member of Southside Freewill Baptist Church where she played the organ for over 60 years. Mrs. Garland had previously played the organ at First Freewill Baptist Church for 20 years.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, George Garland on December 20, 1995; five sisters: Earlene Keever, Beatrice Byrd, Evelyn Vance, Gladys Grubbs and Mary Tapp; and her son-in-law, Lester Scott.
Mrs. Garland is survived by: two sons: Fransco Garland, Erwin, and Steve Garland, of the home; four daughters: Wanda Scott, Unicoi, Jo Ann Yeatman and husband, Steve, Alabama, Georgie Emmert and husband, Tom, Erwin, Rosie Jeannin and husband, Ed, Florida; one sister: Louise Harris, Erwin; eight grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; several nieces & nephews .
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 29 at Southside Freewill Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m.
The Rev. Kevin Laws and the Rev. Charlie Trivette will officiate. Music will be provided by the Southside Freewill Baptist Church choir.
Pallbearers will be the Southside Freewill Baptist Church deacons and trustees.
Interment will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 30, at Evergreen Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Southside Freewill Baptist Building Fund, 1313 Chestoa Pike, Erwin.
