Alenia Thelma (Bowman) Minton

Alenia Thelma (Bowman) Minton, age 90, of Erwin, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2019, at the Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness. A native of Erwin, she was born to parents Ray and Prude Bowman on July 15, 1929.

Mrs. Minton was a member of Shallow Ford Baptist Church, and most recently, Ninth Street Baptist Church. She was a member of the Ruth Class at Ninth Street Baptist Church. She worked at Industrial Garment in Erwin and was later a food service worker at Unicoi County High School before her retirement. She loved to read, cook, and spend time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Jerry Lynn Smith, and one brother, Hilbert Dean Bowman.

Mrs. Minton leaves behind to cherish her memory: her loving husband of 58 years, Robert Minton of Erwin; daughter Teresa Mitchell and husband Larry of Erwin; granddaughter Angie Williams of Erwin; great-grandson Tyler Williams and wife Carrie of Johnson City; great-granddaughter Makena Williams of Erwin; and great-great-granddaughter Ava Williams of Johnson City. She also leaves behind brothers J.R. Bowman (Susan) and Leonard Bowman (Jean), both of Erwin; sisters Wilburn Nave (John) of Kingsport, Freda Ledford of Erwin, and Barbara Walker of Orlando, FL; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other family members.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the physicians, nurses (4300 wing), staff, and all those who assisted the family during Mrs. Minton’s illness.

The family will receive friends from 5 pm to 7 pm on Thursday, August 1, 2019, at Robert Ledford Funeral Home in Erwin. A service honoring Mrs. Minton’s life will follow at 7 pm, with Rev. Tim Tapp and Rev. Zach Smith officiating. Music will be provided by Todd Athon and Becky Manfull. A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Erwin at 11am on Friday, August 2, 2019, with Rev. Zach Smith officiating. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:30 am.

Pallbearers will be selected among family members. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Shallow Ford Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Mrs. Minton to Shallow Ford Baptist Church, 315 Old Highway Road, Erwin, and Ninth Street Baptist Church, 310 Ninth Street, Erwin.
