Albert Nathaniel “Al” Cash

al-cash-obit-pic-2Albert Nathaniel “Al” Cash, 80, of Hanover, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Hanover Hospital. He was the loving husband of Carla J. (Sacco) Cash his wife of 55 years.

Born November 8, 1936 in Erwin, TN, Al was the son of the late George Albert and Mabel (Duncan) Cash.

Al was a graduate of Unicoi County High School, TN, class of 1955. He attended one semester at East Tennessee State College in Johnson City then became an employee of the FBI in Washington D.C. In 1960, Al graduated from Southeastern University in Washington, D.C. with a BS in Accounting and became an Account Representative for Stockbroker Business, Washington, D.C. After getting married to his wife Carla, they moved to Laurel, MD where they raised their two children; Gina Lynn Cash, now of Elkridge, MD and Michael L. Cash, now of Kent Island, MD. Al is also survived by two grandchildren, Carleigh Marie Stokes and John C. “Jack” Stokes, and his brother Houston, and his wife, Betsy Cash of Charlotte, NC.

Al served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1962 as a Seaman Apprentice with 8 years of service. He then became employed as a special agent with the U.S. Department of Defense, National Security Agency at Ft. George G. Meade, MD for 32 years. His duties took him to various U.S. states with an extended stay in Brevard, N.C. His overseas assignments included Germany, Viet Nam, Thailand, Korea and an extended tour in Japan. Al and Carla moved to Hanover in 2002 and Al became a member of First United Methodist Church and their Covenant Brothers and the B.P.O. Elks #763.

Al was a private man who has continued to preserve his Southern Baptist heritage. He enjoyed listening to music, especially Bluegrass, Classical and Barbershop singing. For many years he was an active member of the S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. (Society for the Preservation and Encouragement for Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America, Inc.) His other favorite pastimes included watching football and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Al Cash will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at First United Methodist Church, 200 Frederick St., Hanover, PA 17331 with Pastor Greg Rapp officiating. A time to share memories with the family and to express condolences will be from 10:00am until the time of the service Wednesday at the church. Full military honors will be rendered immediately following the service by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. Final committal will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington Co., VA at a later date.
