Albert Butch Preston Tharp, age 60, of Alma, Kansas, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2014, at the Alma Manor Nursing Home. Mr. Tharp was a son of the late Thomas Albert and Mary Majeska Hinchey Tharp Albert served in the United States Army during Vietnam and served as a recruiting poster solider. He sang bass in the school and church choirs and was a skilled auto body worker with Darrell Starbird in Hutchison, Kansas where he assisted in building the famous velvet cars for celebrities. He also worked on the freightliners that serviced the east coast of North and South America. Mr. Tharp was an alligator handler in Tahars Show with Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus where he traveled to several countries and all across the United States of America. Albert spent his final years in retirement in Lawrence, Kansas where he volunteered with the Outreach Program to house the homeless and the Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen, also known as LINK. Butch had a wonderful gift to gab and no one could tell a story or joke quit like him. He enjoyed the roses and Christmas decorations in South Park, Lawrence, KS. Mr. Tharp is loved by many and will be sorely missed. In addition to his parents, Albert is preceded in death by sisters, Tommy Jean Tharp Mitchell, Peggy Lynn Tharp Garvin and Pamela Kim Tharp.
