Augusta “Gus” Lloyd, 74, died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, at Unicoi County Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Madison Co. N.C. and a son of the late Garrett McKinley and Mary Cordelia Norton Lloyd.
Mr. Lloyd was a machine operator for Unicoi County Highway Department for 20 years. He was of the Church of God faith. He was a loving and devoted Dad, Pap and great grandfather.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Opal Emeline Lloyd, May 3, 2009; five brothers: Vincent, Bob, Rudy, Grady and the Rev. H.P. Lloyd, and three sisters: Annalee Mace, Zell Simmons, and Carolyn J. Good.
Survivors include one son: Russell Lloyd of the home; four daughters: Diane Higgins and husband, Danny, of the home, Debra Hensley and husband, James, Unicoi, Judy Baldwin, Erwin, and Sandra K. Pruitt, Gaffney, S.C.; eight grandchildren: Derek Baldwin, South Carolina, Jim Hensley, Erwin, Joey Carroll, Florida, Andrew Baldwin, Jonesborough, Crystal Higgins, Kingsport, Danielle Hensely, Unicoi and Nikki and Becky Smith, both of South Carolina; nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Mr. Lloyd will be held Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 8 p.m., from the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Kevin Laws and the Rev. Stephen “Pete” Lloyd will officiate. Special music will be provided by pianist Inez Chandler and vocalists Gary and Larry Tipton and David Higgins.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 p.m. until service time and other times at the family residence, 972 Spivey Mountain Road, Erwin.
Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
Committal service will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m., in the Hensley Cemetery. All those attending are asked to meet at the cemetery not later than 12:45 p.m.
