UCHS Drama Club weaves Charlotte’s Web production

The Unicoi County High School Drama Department will be performing Charlotte’s Web Nov. 16 in the UCHS auditorium, and, for Drama Instructor Lori Ann Wright, it was all about fitting a script to her class and not a class to the script.
“It takes time to match scripts with students,” Wright said. “This class has so much energy.”
Wright said she chose Charlotte’s Web because she wanted a play that would utilize the energy of her class, saying the classic loyalty talk was a perfect fit.
“They get the heart of the play,” Wright said.
Wright said she likes to have each of her two drama classes participate in six projects such as face painting or the apple festival per semester, with two projects being plays.
Her Drama 1 class does children’s plays while the more advanced class takes on more difficult pieces.
“I let them have a say,” Wright said. “I’ll throw it out to them.”
She said her class has identified with the play, and has given “heartfelt” appreciation to it.
Wright said she also likes to teach “true theater,” including lighting, sound and costume production.
Charlotte’s Web will feature hand-made sets and costumes, along with students working behind the scenes.
Tickets are available at the door starting at 6:30pm on Nov.16, and general admission seating starts at 6:45pm. Tickets are $3 for adults and $2 for students.
