County’s Relay For Life ranks 5th in state

The Relay For Life of Unicoi County has been ranked 5th in Tennessee for fundraising per-capita and 30th in the division for Relay events.
According to Anthony Piercy, staff coordinator for Relay For Life, the ranking in both categories is based upon the number of people in the community. He added that Relay For Life participants in Unicoi County raised $4.94 for every resident that lives in the community.
The ranking includes fundraising efforts made by individual teams, sponsors, and all other fundraising from last year.
“We’re always pleased with the support we get in Unicoi County,” Piercy said. “Obviously, this is a cause very close to the people of Unicoi County and a cause they support whole-heartedly.”
County-wide fundraising efforts through last year’s Relay For Life brought in a total of $88,595 last year for the American Cancer Society.
Piercy further explained that Unicoi County’s Relay For Life Event, held each summer, ranked 30th out of 570 other Relay events in the six-state division that includes Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee.
