Renovations, which could have an impact on the opening day planned for the town-sponsored farmer’s market, have begun on the town of Unicoi’s new welcome and information center off Exit 32.

Town of Unicoi Mayor Johnny Lynch said the construction includes a new roof, interior modifications and an easement from the parking lot to the newly paved road at Unicoi Village Place.

“We are in the process of putting a new roof on the house,” Lynch said. “The parking lot we’re going to make, of course, bigger. We are putting infrastructure in now, like our water lines and power.”
