The Town of Unicoi has big plans for 2014 with events and festivals dotting the calendar.
Weve got a whole lot going on this year, said Molly Campbell, public relations coordinator for the Town of Unicoi.
To start it all off, Jan. 6 through March 15 is the official Thank a Volunteer contest. Residents from all around the community have the opportunity to nominate someone who they believe contributes vital volunteer work around the region. The winner will be awarded at the Town of Unicoi Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting in April. Folks can nominate volunteers by emailing [email protected], along with writing a small summary of why that person should receive the award. Anyone can nominate a volunteer.
Along with the contest, the Town of Unicoi has received a grant to be able to nominate a Volunteer Coordinator.
The Town of Unicoi has also submitted papers for an economic development grant that would complete the development of the Mountain Harvest Kitchen.
The Mountain Harvest Kitchen has been an on-going desire for the Town of Unicoi. When completed, the new facility will serve as a place to develop culinary entrepreneurs. The Town of Unicoi has also received an Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) Grant for work on the project.
