Unicoi to host Colonial Quilting Bee Saturday

The town of Unicoi History
Committee is scheduled
to host a Colonial Quilting
Bee & Tea on Saturday, Aug.
10, at the BogartBowman
According to a news release
issued by the town
of Unicoi, quiltmaking in
America was at its height
between 1830 and 1870. In
Colonial days, each piece of
cloth was brought from Europe
at an opulent cost and
every scrap from the cutting
of cloth was worth as much
as the garment itself. This
brought about the “Crazy
Patch,” quilt, each piece fi t
together so that not a strand
of the material was wasted.
