Unicoi shooting leaves one dead

A shooting early Thursday morning (June 24) in Unicoi has claimed the life of an 18-year-old female.

According to Unicoi County Sheriff Mike Hensley, a suspect had been detained and charged with murder. Connor Bear Cleveland, 22, is being held at Unicoi County Jail and has been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession Schedule XI, two counts of felony reckless endangerment, unlawful possession of a firearm and murder.

According to Hensley, some time after midnight on June 24, Unicoi Police, Unicoi County Sheriff Department Investigators and TBI worked the murder scene.

“This is an ongoing investigation, so that’s all I can say at this time,” Hensley said. “Our prayers go out to this family.”

“We were able to apprehend the suspect,” Hensley told The Erwin Record. “We do have a suspect in custody at Unicoi County Jail. That’s all I can say now; the investigation is ongoing.”

According to Hensley, Unicoi Police, Unicoi County Sheriff Department investigators and TBI officers worked the murder scene.

The victim’s name has not been released by authorities. No further details have been released at this time.
