Unicoi’s Nick Rogers is awarded American Cancer Society scholarship

Nick Rogers of Unicoi has been awarded a $1,000 college scholarship by the Mid-South Division of the American Cancer Society. The scholarship will be presented at the Relay For Life of Unicoi County on Friday, June 3, at the Unicoi County High School track.
Scholarships were awarded based on financial need, leadership, academic achievement and community service. To be eligible, candidates must be under 25, have had a cancer diagnosis before age 19 and be a Mid-South resident. Students must also have at least a 2.5 grade point average and been accepted to an accredited school.
For the 2010-2011 academic year, the Mid-South Division of the American Cancer Society will award 223 scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each to young cancer survivors in the Mid-South Division. Since the beginning of this program in 2001, more than 1,700 scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each have been awarded across the division.
