UCMH sale expected to close Friday

The sale of Unicoi County Memorial Hospital to Mountain States Health Alliance is expected to close no later than Nov. 1. “The date of completion I still believe to be Nov. 1,” said Tracy Byers, CEO of UCMH. “I believe from the attorney general’s office a letter of … no contest will be issued tomorrow [Oct. 30] or Thursday [Oct. 31]. We will do something to make it official presumably no later than Friday [Nov. 1].” As of the closure of the sale, the hospital will no longer be publicly owned. Instead, it will be owned by MSHA, a nonprofit medical group that currently services 29 counties across four states.
