Unicoi County High School softball coach Grady Lingerfelt has announced his retirement from coaching.

Lingerfelt retires from the UCHS softball program after 18 seasons as the head coach of the program and steps away from one of the most successful coaching tenures in the history of the school as well as the state. In his 18 seasons, Lingerfelt won 626 games against just 178 losses. His teams captured 13 District Championships along with three district runner-up finishes. He went on to win eight Regional Championships as well as earning six Sectional/Sub-state victories. Taking six teams to the State Championship Tournament, the Lady Devils captured one of their two state titles under Coach Lingerfelt’s leadership.

In a press release sent out by Chris Bogart, the school’s athletic director, Bogart noted, “Beyond the victories and the championships, Lingerfelt has created a legacy of compassion and care for his players. His influence on their lives cannot be measured in statistics alone. While we wish Coach Lingerfelt all the best in his retirement, he will be missed dearly in our school system as our softball coach. Unicoi County Schools will begin the process of selecting a new coach to lead our program immediately.”
