UCHS Band Director Brad Williams arrested, charged with theft

Brad Williams, a teacher and band director at Unicoi County High School, was arrested and charged Thursday morning with one count of theft over $1,000 for using a Band Boosters’ credit card for personal purchases, said Erwin Police Department Chief Regan Tilson.
Williams is the husband of Angie Williams, the former finance director, who was charged one week ago, on Thursday, June 24, for taking nearly $21,000 from Unicoi County School System.
Tilson said Brad Williams turned himself in and was taken to Unicoi County Jail, where he was released on a $5,000 bond. Just minutes prior to his arrest, Angie Williams, appeared in Unicoi County Sessions Court and she waived her case over to the August session of the Unicoi County Grand Jury.
Tilson said Brad Williams spent more than $10,199.30 on a credit card assigned to the Unicoi County Band Boosters from 2007 to 2009. Since that time, some of the spent funds had been reimbursed by Williams, but auditors found that approximately $6,330.87 had not been repaid.
On Wednesday, June 30, Brad Williams was suspended without pay by Director of Schools Denise Brown. He resigned from his position on Thursday, July 1, Brown told The Erwin Record.
Tilson said that the full amount owed by Brad Williams was repaid to the Boosters on Wednesday, June 30.
The charge is a Class D felony. Brad Williams is scheduled to appear in Unicoi County Sessions Court Sept. 2.
