The Town of Unicoi Board of Mayor and Aldermen held its first social distancing meeting on Monday, April 20, to complete unfinished business.
All members of the BMA were able to meet using Zoom and citizens were able to watch the meeting live on YouTube.
The BMA officially named Mayor Johnny Lynch as a new member to represent the Town of Unicoi on the Unicoi County Animal Welfare Board, following a unanimous vote.
Lynch replaces Billy Harkins, who recently resigned from the Unicoi County Animal Welfare Board.
Also during the meeting, Unicoi County Communications and Programs Director Ashley Shelton confirmed that several events in the town have been canceled and several are up in the air at this point.
“We were heartbroken to have to cancel the 25th Annual Fiddlers and Fiddleheads Festival, the 18th Annual Wayne Scott Strawberry Festival, the Old Fashioned Easter at the Cabin and our first British Car Show,” Shelton said. “Our Movies in the Park and Farmers Market is scheduled to start in June.”
In a final order of business the BMA, voted unanimously to approve an updated sick leave and holiday policy for town employees. The updated policy allows the town to require a doctor’s report to substantiate illness.
The Town of Unicoi Planning Commission and BMA will conduct all meetings electronically until further notice. There are electronically held budget workshops for the fiscal year 2020-2021 scheduled for Monday, April 27, at 4 p.m. and Monday, May 4, at 4 p.m. The BMA is scheduled to host its monthly meeting again on May 18.
