Tickets now available for Aug. 26 Record of Service Awards

Tickets are now available for the fourth annual Record of Service Awards, an event that recognizes community volunteerism and community service.
The Record of Service Awards will be held Thursday, Aug. 26, at 6:30 p.m. at Unicoi United Methodist Church’s New Life Center in the town of Unicoi. Tickets are $12.50 each and are on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets must be purchased in advance.
The Erwin Record founded the Record of Service Awards in 2007. This year the newspaper will be joined by the Rotary Club of Unicoi County as an official co-sponsor. Other sponsors include Nuclear Fuel Services and Walmart.
Record of Service Awards in Public Service, Education, Business, Emergency Services, Service to the Community and Health Care will be distributed.
Nominations for the awards come from the public.
The newspaper also gives an additional award called the Distinguished Service Award.
When the newspaper established the program in 2007, the idea was to create a program to offer community-appreciation honors to individuals and groups who make a difference in the lives of Unicoi Countians.
Individuals must be county residents, a county native or employed at a business in Unicoi County.
“As the community’s newspaper for 82 years, The Erwin Record often champions, through the printed word and photographs, the people and groups who work diligently to make the Valley Beautiful a better place,” said Mark A. Stevens, the newspaper’s publisher. “The purpose of the Record of Service Awards is to officially, through a ceremony and dinner, honor our community’s deserving employees, volunteers and philanthropists.
“Previous events have been hugely successful with nearly 300 residents attending annually. We feel that this year’s event will be bigger and better.”
Tickets are available at The Erwin Record, located at 218 Gay St. in historic downtown Erwin.
