Third line gets restart at NFS

Nuclear Fuel Services has been authorized by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to restart its uranium aluminum process line.
This is the third line the NRC has authorized a line restart following the facility’s complete shut down in late 2009.
NFS’ Naval fuel line was the first to get a restart OK. That happened in March.
In May, the company was granted permission to begin a uranium oxide-metal line restart.
With the uranium aluminum line restart, that leaves only the Commercial Development Line as not yet authorized.
Joey Ledford, an NRC spokesman, said officials will conduct a supplemental readiness inspection after getting word from NFS that the Erwin facility is ready to safely resume and operate that process.
Ledford said that restart, however, may not occur until late in the year.
