Summer school to begin May 31

Unicoi County High School students who have not received a passing grade in an academic subject are invited to enroll in the upcoming summer school session.
The summer session consists of part-time hours in a short duration. For 19 days, students attend class from 8 a.m.-noon. Summer school begins Tuesday, May 31, and ends Friday, June 24. A final grade is based on attendance, notes and coursework. Students must attend every day due to the condensed length of the program. Transportation is not provided and needs to be arranged independently. Carpooling may be an option to consider for the families with scheduling issues or transportation difficulties.
In order to be eligible, students must have received at least a 50 for their final grade in the class that is targeted for credit recovery. CTE classes are not available through the summer session. The maximum number of credits that can be recovered is limited to 3. Applications will be accepted through May 30.
Although the class will benefit seniors who lack the credits to graduate, summer school is open to all high school students who meet the criteria.
There is no charge to register, there is no charge to the parents of students enrolled. Students who need to repeat a required class have a chance to correct any deficiencies that would create a barrier to their graduation status.
Not all classes are available: Call the high school guidance office, 743-1632, with any questions.
