Store officially opens as Price Less Foods

As of Monday, Dec. 8, the Hometown IGA store on Jackson Love Highway officially became Price Less Foods. According to a press release from Price Less Foods, the Erwin store is the company’s ninth location in east Tennessee and the 15th to open in the state.
The press release also stated that the chain is a “cost-plus format” operation, which offers products to customers at 10 percent above the store’s cost.
“Price Less Foods is simple and straightforward,” said Randall Tipton, division manager for Houchens Industries, parent company of Price Less Foods. “The price you see is what it cost us to get products to the shelf. Then at checkout the customer pays just 10 percent above cost.”
According to the company, the stores offer an “extensive name brand product selection” and products that are “value priced every day.” The store will also offer in-house butchers. Fresh fruits and vegetables will arrive at the store three to five times each week, the company also reported.
“Price Less is also unique because we don’t have sales,” said Tipton. “Unlike most grocery stores, we don’t have sales gimmicks, costly memberships or loyalty card programs. When we use product cost to determine the selling price, it results in consistent low prices all across the store regardless of the time of month or what day you shop. Customers have even told us that Price Less has eliminated their need to bargain shop and travel to multiple retailers to find the products they like at prices they can afford.”
The Erwin Record previously reported that the rebranding of the store from Hometown IGA to Price Less Foods is expected to create 10-15 new jobs.
Also according to the company, Price Less Foods has 37 stores across Tennessee, Alabama, Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana and Illinois.
Price Less Foods is located at 1609 Jackson Love Highway in Erwin and will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
