Single-vehicle accident claims life of Unicoi woman

A fatal single-vehicle crash shut down Highway 107 on Thursday, Jan. 10 around 5:20 p.m., according to Unicoi County 911 Emergency Communications.
Town of Unicoi resident Betty A. Johnson, 73, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the county’s emergency communications.
The county’s dispatch received a call reporting the wreck at 5:10 p.m. and traffic was diverted 10 minutes later. Traffic was diverted along alternate routes until 7:18 p.m.
The Johnson City Press reported that a Tennessee Highway Patrol report states that Johnson ran into a ditch on the right side of Highway 107.
“She overcorrected and the car flipped when it got back on the road, landing on its top,” according to The Johnson City Press. “It was not known what caused Johnson to veer off the road.”
The Erwin Record was unable to obtain more information from the Tennessee Highway Patrol before the Monday deadline.
