Senior center posts schedule for September events, meals

By Charlene O’Dell

Clinchfield Senior Adult Center is open to the public, and face coverings are strongly encouraged at all times except when a person is exercising or if they have a medical reason for not doing so. We understand that the recent spike in COVID-19 cases primarily caused by the delta variant has caused many members to be reluctant to attend the Senior Center. We are continuing to observe social distancing,  following recommendations for sanitizing and performing other actions to reduce spread.  We encourage everyone to be vigilant about protection for yourself and others.

During the month of September, the Art Group will continue to meet each Monday from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.; dulcimer practice will be from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. each Tuesday; and Tai Chi ($5 fee per class) will be held each Friday.  Members who are interested in making craft items for fundraising purposes may meet in the Craft Room each Wednesday between 12:30 pm and 3 p.m.  Other scheduled activities during the month of September include Bingo by CARIS Healthcare on Thursday, Sept. 9, at 10 a.m.; musical program and devotions by Mike Watts with Avalon Hospice at 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 14; a presentation by University of Tennessee Extension Agent Melissa Shelton at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 22; sing-along with Ray Tipton at 10:15 a.m. followed by devotions at 10:45 a.m. by Pastor Carl Conley of Ninth Street Baptist Church on Tuesday, Sept. 21, and Tuesday, Sept. 28.  The Center will be closed on Monday, Sept. 6, for the Labor Day holiday. Equipment in the  Fitness Area and Computer Lab is available without an appointment.  Other activities that are available every day include billiards, ping pong and several Wii games. Our library is also open.

The FTHRA Congregate lunch will continue to be available as a pre-packaged meal and may be eaten in the Center dining room or received as a carry-out.  Meals must be reserved three days in advance by calling Leslie Hedges, FTHRA nutrition coordinator, at (423) 330-6904.
