In a special called meeting Monday night, the Unicoi County Board of Education approved a base bid from a Johnson City company for site preparation for 12 modular classrooms that will house students from Love Chapel.
Following a presentation by Tony Street, with the architectural firm Beeson, Lusk and Street, Inc., Johnson City, the board approved a base bid from J.E. Green Company for $736,300.
Previously during the meeting, Director of Schools Denise Brown told the board she had received a check $1,406,749.77 from insurance, adding this is not the final amount.
Brown said, We are still in negotiations with the insurance company. We were on site again Friday for about five hours.
Asked by Board Chairman Renea Jones-Rogers when the work might be completed, Street responded, We are looking to have the sight work done (sometime) in June. He added he hoped the modulars would be installed by the third week in June. Following the installation, construction would begin on finishing touches, such as ramps, decking and flashing under the modulars.
