The Unicoi County Salary and Wage Committee met for the first time on Thursday, Feb. 6, in the conference room of the Unicoi County Courthouse.
The members of this recently appointed committee are commissioners Sue Jean Wilson, who chairs the committee, Dwight Bennett and Dr. James “Mickey” Hatcher, who was absent from Wednesday’s meeting. Commissioners Loren Thomas, Bill Hensley and Marie Rice also attended the meeting.
Establishing the committee’s objectives and goals were among the list of issues discussed in the hour long session.
“For several years we’ve been asked to discuss salaries and try to get them in line,” Wilson said.
“We’ve asked the officeholders to get together with us to come to an agreement,” Thomas responded. “We have no authority to set wages.”
“It should be that the employees are handled fairly,” Bennett said. “We feel that they should be treated fairly on their wages. We want the taxpayers to be treated fairly by what employees are paid.”
