From Staff Reports

Planning to visit Rock Creek Recreation Area in Unicoi County for the Memorial Day weekend? You might want to take your own water.

A boil water advisory is in place for the Rock Creek Recreation Area due to an unexpected failure of the water distribution system, according to a release issued by Ashley F. Miller, public information office and community engagement staff officer for the Cherokee National Forest. The release also advises that visitors and users of the water system may experience off-color water and turbidity.

Flush toilets, faucets and showers are currently functional and remain open for public use. Porta-johns are onsite in the event that the water system needs to be completely shut-off during the repair process.

Rock Creek Recreation Area will remain open. Reservations and more information can be found at https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/267551

Forest Service staff understand the inconvenience this has caused for visitors and are working diligently to rectify the situation. Disruption to the water service is expected to last through the week.
