Plea deadline established for husband, wife case

A plea deadline was set for a husband and wife, who were charged for their alleged participation in a murder-for-hire plot, at an arraignment hearing in Unicoi County Criminal Court on April 18. On April 10, Gerald Dorene Tipton and James M. Tipton were indicted by the Unicoi County grand jury. Gerald Dorene Tipton was charged in August 2011 with solicitation to commit first-degree murder and one count each of selling a Schedule IV controlled substance and delivering a schedule III controlled substance. Her husband, James M. Tipton, was charged with conspiracy to solicit first-degree murder and conspiracy to sell a Schedule IV controlled substance.
