Peterson wins DAR Good Citizens Award for 2013 at Unicoi County High School

Kelsey Lea Peterson, a senior at Unicoi County High School, has won the 2013 DAR Good Citizens Award for her school. The Mary Patton Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, made the announcement and certificate presentation at the Unicoi County High School awards ceremony, according to a press release issued by the chapter.
Peterson is the daughter of Craig and Sherry Peterson of Unicoi. She is a member of the Key Club, Christian Student Union, French Club and Pep Club at UCHS.
Three seniors who best demonstrate the qualities of a good citizen in their homes, schools and communities are selected by the high school faculty. From these three seniors the senior class elects, by vote, the one senior to be the school’s DAR Good Citizen. The winner may choose to compete in the DAR Good Citizens Scholarship Contest.
Peterson completed the required scholarship entry including information listing her activities and projects; an explanation of how she has incorporated the four qualities of a DAR Good Citizen into her life; an official school transcript and two letters of recommendation.
Guidance counselors present the high school student participating in the scholarship contest with a sealed envelope with the essay topic inside. They are given two hours to complete the essay and the use of outside materials is not allowed. Peterson’s entry has been submitted for regional competition.
