Missing Carter County girl found in Erwin

Unicoi County Sheriff Mike Hensley reported to Unicoi County 911 that a missing girl from Carter County was found in Unicoi County on Monday afternoon, according to Unicoi County Administrative Assistant Craig Masters.
Reported missing to the Carter County Sheriff’s Department early Friday morning, 12-year-old Annabelle Sigman’s disappearance was believed to be a runaway situation by Monday, according to the Johnson City Press website.
Unicoi County Sheriff Chris Mathes said Sigman was suspected to be with her biological mother, Robyn Smith, who has since been charged with custodial interference.
“A 12-year-old juvenile went missing, ran away from home Friday about 5 a.m.,” Mathes said. “She was reported missing and we conducted an extensive search throughout the weekend with no success.”
Mathes said officers followed up on a lead, which lead to her discovery in the county.
“Our investigators discovered that she may be coming to Unicoi County,” Mathes said. “We got with Sheriff Mike Hensley this afternoon and set up a surveillance and found her about ten minutes till 3 p.m. in the 1300 block of East Main Street in Erwin.”
Mathes said the girl was found with Smith.
“She was in the company of her mother who did not have parental rights to her and [Smith] has been charged with custodial interference,” Mathes said.
Mathes said he appreciates the efforts of the Unicoi County Sheriff’s Department.
“They did a great job helping me today,” Mathes said. “They helped with the surveillance and subsequently they helped us with the scene.”
