Man charged in church burglary

A Unicoi man was arrested and charged in connection with a burglary at First Free Will Baptist Church, 5929 Simerly Creek Road, Unicoi.
According to an affidavit of complaint filed by Major Ronnie Adkins of the Unicoi County Sheriff’s Department, Robert Sneyd, 4692 Unicoi Drive, 19, allegedly made forcible entry through the front door of the church and reportedly caused “extensive damage.”
“Once inside the church the defendant did take money from a canister sitting on the communion table at the front of the sanctuary,” the affidavit also states. “[Sneyd] also attempted to enter the fellowship hall of the church by throwing a cement block through the window in the door and once again caused extensive damage.”
The damage to the church was estimated to be $2,575, the UCSD report also states.
Sneyd was charged with burglary, vandalism over $1,000 and theft under $500.
