Ladies defeat Madison County

Publisher’s Note: The Unicoi County High School Lady Devil volleyball team participated in the District 1-AA volleyball tournament on Monday, Oct. 7, against Elizabethton after The Erwin Record’s press deadline. A win on Monday moved the Lady Devils to a semifinal match against Sullivan East on Tuesday, Oct. 8. A loss ended the season for the Lady Devils. Jackie Manzanares laid it on the line, but Sullivan North would not be denied on senior night. Manzanares had a team-high 12 digs and six kills for the Unicoi County High School Lady Devil volleyball team (8-16) but the Lady Golden Raiders edged out the competitive third set to set up a 25-20, 25-14, 29-27 sweep over the Lady Devils in Three Rivers Conference action on Tuesday, Oct. 1, in Kingsport. Head coach Junia Gindlesperger saw her team win a blowout on Monday, Sept. 30, against Madison County. Tuesday’s end wasn’t ideal, but the effort was good to see, according to Gindlesperger.
