Home owners asked to look for leaks

From Staff Reports
The management of the Unicoi Water Utility District is asking all customers to check their water meter boxes inside and outside for water that may indicate a leak.
Anyone who notices water needs to call the utility at 743-6202. In addition to checking for leaks, customers need to check the plumbing from the meter to the house, and from the meter to the road.
“Look for wet soil or any other indication of a water leak,” Lee Bennett, utility manager said. “It is very important that you have a pressure reducer valve on your water line, and a cut-off valve on your side of the meter in case you need to cut your water off due to an emergency.”
The UWUD recently finished a meter change-out program where all meters were changed to new Radio Read Meters. The maintenance team of the utility only stop about every four months to check on customer's meters. Therefore, it is important for each customer to know where their water meter is located and help with water conservation.
