Groups asked to apply for funds

Organizations conducting food and shelter programs in Unicoi County are urged to apply in writing by March 25 to seek a share of potential funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
While funding availability cannot be guaranteed for fiscal year 2011, the national board has encouraged the local board to begin the process.
A local board made up of representatives of county and local non-profit organizations would determine how any funds awarded to Unicoi County would be distributed among the food and shelter programs run by local service organizations in the county. The local board is responsible for recommending agencies to receive these funds and any additional funds available under this phase of the program.
Under terms of the grant, local government or private voluntary organizations chosen to receive funds must be non-profit, have an accounting system, practice nondiscrimination, have demonstrated the ability to deliver emergency food or shelter programs, and if they are a private voluntary organization, have a voluntary board.
Information on the program can be obtained by calling Roger Smith, UETHDA Inc., 246-6180, or writing P.O. Box 46, Kingsport, TN. 37660.
