Good vibes are coming to the corner of Main Avenue and Union Street.
The Groovy Smoothie is set to serve up a variety of healthy and filling smoothies.
“We will be serving smoothies with a variety of different healthy flavors,” Groovy Smoothie owner Alex Peterson said. “Protein and energy additions will be available. We also offer smoothie bowls, fresh oatmeal with fresh fruit toppings, wraps, salads, toasts (avocado, hazelnut and peanut butter) and a few other grab-and-go snacks.”
According to Peterson, smoothies offer a healthy alternative for meals or snacks.
“Any smoothie would be ideal for a breakfast or lunch supplement where we give you the option to add protein and energy to any smoothie,” Peterson said. “We will also offer lunch combos where you can enjoy one of our wraps with a smoothie. Whether you just hopped off a hiking trail, the Nolichucky River, a treadmill or just stopping for a meal or snack, an item from our menu is a tasty and wholesome way to fuel up before or after a full day of activities.”
Peterson, who is no stranger to the food and service industry, feels honored to bring her vision to Erwin.
“Being able to have and create my own business has always been a dream of mine,” Peterson said. “While working at the Dari Ace, I learned to love and appreciate the special atmosphere Erwin holds as a small town.”
Erwin residents will not have to wait long to start trying all of the different flavors the Groovy Smoothie has to offer.
“We are hoping to open sometime in March as the renovation and preparation process is finalized,” Peterson said. “We are tentatively looking to be open Tuesday through Friday, 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.”
Peterson said she may test the hours, in the beginning, to see what works best for the community and business altogether.
“I ask that everyone bear with us as we begin that process,” she said. The business will be located at 202 Union Street in downtown Erwin.
“It’s a pleasure to be adding something new and unique to my hometown,” Peterson said. “It was important to me to share this opportunity with my hometown and to be a part of the growth of Erwin.”
She said that she feels that a smoothie bar is something that hasn’t been introduced to the town yet.
“I’m super excited to see what the future holds,” Peterson said.
She also plans to offer curbside pickup or the option to call in and pick up inside.
Peterson noted that it takes a lot of help from family and friends to start a smoothie business.
“I want to thank my family, my friends and the community for all their help and support,” Peterson said. “I hope to be an encouragement to those thinking about opening up a business as well. I look forward to seeing this beautiful, one-of-a-kind town, continue to grow. I’m so excited to see all of the bright smiles walk through the doors of The Groovy Smoothie.”
