Friday’s football game cancelled, Homecoming festivities will continue

Staff Reports

The football game scheduled for Friday, Sept. 17, as part of the annual Unicoi County High School Homecoming has been cancelled.

The visiting opponent, Claiborne County, had to cancel due to a COVID situation in the Claiborne County football program, according to a statement released by the UCHS website on Wednesday afternoon.

Although the football game has been cancelled, Homecoming activities will take place as scheduled.

“The Homecoming Parade through Main and the Homecoming festivities will go on at Gentry Stadium,” announced Homecoming Committee Chair Kelly Boling.

Boling said that the 2021 Homecoming Parade along Main Street is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 17.

The 2021 Homecoming activities, which includes a performance of the National Anthem, presentation of the Homecoming court and queen, performances by the UCHS cheerleaders and the UCHS Blue Devil Band, are scheduled to take place inside Gentry Stadium at 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 17.

There is no charge to attend the Homecoming festivities and concessions will be open.
