Free flu vaccines available to county residents

The Unicoi County Health Department announced last week that it is currently offering free flu vaccinations to area residents until vaccine supplies are depleted.
According to a press release issued last week, the numerous flu cases occurring in Tennessee prompted the department to begin offering the free vaccines in order to protect the community.
An appointment is required to receive the vaccine. Appointments can be made by calling the department at 743-9103.
“Vaccination is the best protection against the flu, and the Unicoi County Health Department, the Tennessee Department of Health and the CDC recommend that everyone six months of age and older get a flu vaccine every year,” said Heidi Casey, Nurse Supervisor. “It takes about two weeks to be protected after you get the flu vaccine, so we want everyone who hasn’t had their flu shot to get one right away.”
Flu vaccinations will be given to both adults and children at the department.
The clinic is located at 101 Okolona Drive in Erwin and is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
