Forest Service takes aim at hazardous trees at Rock Creek site
The Nolichucky/Unaka Forest Service Ranger Station has been targeting hazardous trees at Rock Creek Recreational Area in Unicoi County. The area is closed to recreation because the season hasnt started and also because hemlock trees are suffering from an infestation of insects called hemlock wooly adelgids, which are creating a safety hazard, according to a Forest Service alert sent by Cheryl Summers, assistant ranger.
These trees along with other dead and damaged trees are being removed, the alert read.
