Farmers eligible for emergency loanst

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, farmers in Unicoi County are eligible to apply for emergency loans.
“Emergency loans for farmers, ranchers, and operators are available through the Washington/Unicoi County Office of the Farm Service Agency,” Gregory A. Brooks, farm loan manager, said in a press release issued by the USDA.
The press release also said that, according to Farm Service Agency’s State Executive Director Eugene Davidson, the Secretary of Agriculture declared a major disaster in Tennessee last month due to the high winds, hail and lightning which occurred on July 27 and 28 this year.
“As a result of this major disaster, Unicoi County, as a contiguous county in Tennessee, is named as an area eligible for Federal disaster assistance pursuant to the provisions of Section 321(a) of the Consolidated Farm and Rural Development Act,” the press release also stated.
Applications for assistance will be accepted by the Farm Services Agency through May 26, 2015, for losses.
“Farmers qualifying for emergency loans may borrow up to 100 percent of their actual loss, not to exceed a maximum of $500,000 or the amount actually needed, whichever is less,” according to the press release. “FSA Emergency Loans cover losses from designated disasters and are made to qualified farmers who cannot obtain necessary credit from other lenders in the local area.”
