From Staff Reports
The town of Erwin and the Erwin Downtown Merchants Association have joined forces to host the first Erwin Great Outdoors Festival on Saturday, April 30, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in historic downtown Erwin.
“We are very excited to bring this new event to Erwin and Unicoi County,” Erwin City Recorder Glenn Rosenoff said. “The Erwin Great Outdoors Festival is a celebration of all Unicoi County has to offer the outdoor enthusiast in you.”
Vendors offering everything from hiking equipment, outdoor decor and furniture, gardening equipment, plants, crafts and more will be set up on Main Avenue. There will also be a children’s area, live music, food and craft beer from the Johnson City Brewing Company.
“The festival will have something for everyone,” Rosenoff said. “Erwin is a beautiful community with a variety of recreational opportunities. We hope to showcase our community to our surrounding region and beyond.”
In addition to having their unique craft beers on tap from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Johnson City Brewing Company will also be offering special Erwin-themed beer infusions.
At noon, a “Coffee and Chocolate” infusion with ingredients provided by Steel Rails Coffee House will be available. At 2 p.m., they will offer a “Roasted Jalapeno Barbecue” infusion with ingredients provided by Hawg-N-Dawg. At 4 p.m., a “Pie” infusion with ingredients provided by Choo Choo Cafe will be offered.
The Johnson City Brewing Company will be donating $1 from every pint sold during the festival to Kari’s Heart Foundation – a faith based organization set up to provide a wide range of personal, financial and social resources to families who are currently experiencing a healthcare crisis.
The winners of a Unicoi County 4-H Outdoor Photography contest for students will be announced from the stage at 2 p.m.
A children’s area – known as the Kid’s Zone – will offer a variety of activities. The Unicoi County HIgh School FFA will be offering a petting zoo, the Rotary Club of Unicoi County will help children create birdhouses, Clinchfield Federal Credit Union will offer balloons and bubbles, State Farm will allow children to plant flowers to take home and Coi’s Closet will be offering fingerpainting.
