Devils drop first scrimmage
It was a trial by fire on Friday, Aug. 9, when the Unicoi County High School Blue Devils traveled to Mosheim to square off against the West Greene Buffaloes in their first of two preseason scrimmages.
West Greene came out on top during the scrimmage, and the Blue Devils will use the experience as a wake up call, according to head coach Jerad Huskins. We didnt come out and play the way we normally do, he said. We played the same West Greene team in May and won it pretty heavily. West Greene came out fi red up and really exposed some spots on our team that we need to continue to get better on. Im glad it happened during the preseason instead of our first regular season game. Were going to use this as a wake up call to continue on getting better. Our guys have to be hungry to practice Monday through Friday and we didnt have a good week of practice under our belts before the scrimmage. After the game we told our guys that we cant hang our heads, were going to use this week, prepare for North Buncombe then get ready for our jamboree on Friday.
