Clinchfield Senior Adult Center receives award

By Keeli Parkey

The Clinchfield Senior Adult Center (CSAC) has received national recognition for the services it provides to the community it serves.

According to Executive Director Kamela Easlic, the Erwin facility was recently chosen to receive the 2016 Positive Images in Aging Award from the Southeastern Association of Area Agencies on Aging (SE4A) – an organization which serves eight states. The award recognizes organizations that make significant impacts on the lives of senior adults.

“We are very excited,” Easlic said.

In those eight Southern states, centers like the CSAC have an opportunity to place a program or event up for consideration by the SE4A for recognition.

“We submitted our Art On Union event as our submission,” Easlic said. “When the (SE4A) committee got together our entry was chosen for the award.”

Art On Union gave the facility’s members an opportunity to showcase their artistic gifts.

This is the first time the CSAC received the award. Easlic said she believes the award demonstrates the CSAC’s commitment to Unicoi County.

“I believe this shows the positive atmosphere the Senior Center has,” Easlic said. “There are new programs and new creative programs that bring people in and bring in the community as well. … It shows how we respect elders and include them in the programs and activities.”

Easlic will be traveling to Biloxi, Miss., in October to accept the award on behalf of the CSAC.

For more information about joining the CSAC, call 743-5421, or visit the facility at 220 Union St. in downtown Erwin. “There is a lot we offer here,” Easlic said.
