Chamber makes plans for second River Run

Thanks to the success of the first Nolichucky 5K River Run last year, the race is set to become another annual event hosted by the Unicoi County Chamber of Commerce.
Amanda Delp, the Chamber’s executive director, said last week that the Chamber is planning to host the race for a second time this spring.
According to Delp, in late 2011 members of the Chamber’s Board of Directors expressed interest in hosting a 5K race in Unicoi County. The Chamber contacted Hank Brown with We Run Events, a Tri-Cities racing organization, for help planning and coordinating the race.
We Run Events helped the Chamber promote the first Nolichucky 5K River Run to racers across Northeast Tennessee, Delp said. The organization also assisted the Chamber on race day with recording race times and registering racers.
“We Run Events is a great organization,” Delp said. “They are very professional and they really know racing.”
The Chamber anticipated that 100 runners would participate in the 2012 race.
“The official count for the race last year was 172 runners,” Delp said. “The turnout exceeded our expectations. We were very pleased with the participation we had last year, despite the rainy weather on the day of the race.”
