Career and Technical Education students take top honors during Appalachian Fair

Many Unicoi County Career and Technical Education students competed and placed at the Appalachian Fair this year. Unicoi County CTE Drafting and CAD students won 65 blue ribbons, 65 red ribbons and 44 white ribbons. Family and consumer sciences students competed in the culinary arts, fl ower arranging, food art, knife cuts, dog biscuits, biscuits, yeast rolls, quick breads, cakes, fudge and candies competitions and won 40 blue ribbons, 30 red ribbons and 15 white ribbons.
Rusty Edwards, drafting teacher, said that he collects a year's worth of coursework and enters it into the fair. “It’s really our club fundraiser,” Edwards said. “It’s their class assignments, so I just compile them over the year, hold them back, and then, submit them through the school for them. It gives the school promotion and the students promotion. They can see their work displayed.” The prize money from the fair is put toward the drafting club's numerous activities and trips.
